Trip Q&A

eSIM, SIM or roaming: mobile data for a concert trip to Korea

Last checked: 15 October 2026

You have four options: a Korean carrier's tourist eSIM or SIM, your home carrier's roaming, a rented pocket Wi-Fi, or free Wi-Fi alone. On a concert trip you need data for the mobile ticket, maps and checking the last train, so an eSIM/SIM or roaming is the practical base. KT, SK telecom and LG U+ all run 24-hour counters on the arrivals floor at Incheon Airport, so you can still sort it out after you land.

When you need data on a concert trip

  • Mobile tickets: NOL World mobile tickets only show in its app or mobile web, and you enter with the QR code. Ticketlink Smart Tickets are a barcode on your phone scanned at the gate (not offered for every show).
  • Passport verification: NOL World warns that a low-spec device or an unstable connection can stop the captured data saving correctly.
  • Checking the last train, maps and taxi apps after the show.

Networks get busy around big shows. SK telecom said mobile data around a large K-pop concert at Gwanghwamun in March 2026 was about double the previous weekend's, and brought in mobile cell sites. Open your ticket before you reach the venue (whether a screenshot is accepted depends on the show and site).

Korean carriers' eSIMs and SIMs

Prices are as listed on the carriers' official sites on 15 October 2026.

KT

Data-only eSIM: 6,500 won for 1 day, 18,000 for 3, 27,500 for 5, 35,000 for 7 (VAT included), sold online and at the airport. Past 11 GB a day you keep going at 5 Mbps. The eSIM with a 010 number (from 23,500 won for 3 days) is sold only at KT's airport roaming centers, and calls and texts work after an identity check there.

SK telecom

LTE 1-day pass 6,500 won (data only), 2-day pass 12,000 won, 3 days and up from 18,000 won. Passes of two days or more include a Korean number; incoming calls and texts work after passport verification. You buy the eSIM online and install it from a QR code sent by email. Korean-issued cards are not accepted.

LG U+

Its airport counters sell prepaid SIMs, eSIMs and routers, but its website blocked our checks, so we couldn't confirm prices.

Both KT and SK telecom state that tourist numbers can't receive Korean identity-verification texts. A Korean number won't unlock the Korean versions of the ticket sites.

Home-carrier roaming

Roaming needs almost no setup and keeps your own number. Daily passes from Japanese carriers cost about ¥980 per 24 hours (docomo, SoftBank; au is ¥800 with advance booking or ¥1,200 without, and a flat ¥980 from 1 February 2027; Rakuten Mobile includes 2 GB a month free in Korea). Carriers elsewhere sell similar day passes; check your own plan before you fly.

Pocket Wi-Fi and free Wi-Fi

A pocket Wi-Fi can be shared by a group. KT charges 4,400 won a day (55,000 won for 30 days) and needs your passport and a credit card in your name (no debit cards); SK telecom starts at 4,400 won a day.

Free Wi-Fi is available in subway stations, major bus stops and cafés, according to the Korea Tourism Organization, and the national public network is called "Public WiFi Free". Connection time can be limited and the KTO warns coverage is patchy in some regions, so don't rely on it alone on show day.

Counters at Incheon Airport

  • Terminal 1: KT, LG U+ and SK telecom 24-hour roaming centers on the 1F arrivals floor near Arrival Hall F (prepaid SIM, eSIM, Wi-Fi router).
  • Terminal 2: KT and LG U+ 24-hour counters near Exit 4 on 1F, SK telecom near Exit 7.
  • T1 also has counters for all three near Arrival Hall A, open 06:00–22:00.

For the trip on from the airport, see Incheon Airport to the main venues.

FAQ

Can I buy an eSIM before I fly?

Yes for KT's data-only eSIM and SK telecom's eSIMs, on their official sites. KT's eSIM with a phone number is sold only at the airport. Check that your phone supports eSIM and isn't carrier-locked.

Will a Korean number let me pass ticket-site ID checks?

No. KT and SK telecom both say tourist numbers can't receive Korean identity-verification texts. Buy through the global ticket sites with passport verification instead (passport verification guide).

Does my lightstick app need data?

The HYBE, SM and FANLIGHT apps register your seat and pair over Bluetooth, and HYBE asks you to finish before arriving because venue congestion can make it fail. See Lightsticks and Bluetooth pairing.
