Trip Q&A

Arriving in Korea on show day: immigration, SES and pickup times

Last checked: 15 October 2026

Landing on show day can work, but the margin is thin. Korea's Ministry of Justice said in December 2025 that manual immigration at Incheon can take up to 92 minutes at peak times, while venue-pickup tickets can only be collected on show day from one hour before the start (NOL World FAQ). Add up immigration, the trip from the airport and the pickup queue and work backwards; arriving the day before is the safer plan.

What can go wrong

  • Immigration queues: the Ministry of Justice cited waits of up to 92 minutes for manual screening at peak in its December 2025 announcement.
  • Ticket pickup: NOL World's FAQ says venue pickup is on show day from one hour before the show, never earlier. Pickup windows and closing times differ by show, so check the notice.
  • A fan post (Yahoo! Chiebukuro, April 2025) describes missing a show because pickup closed 30 minutes after the start.
  • Some shows check ID again at the entrance as well as at pickup (ID checks at Korean concerts).

SES automated immigration, now open to Japanese nationals

On 1 December 2025 Korea's Ministry of Justice expanded SES (automated immigration for registered foreigners) from 4 to 18 countries and regions, adding Japan, and added pre-registration counters in Incheon's arrival halls (Terminal 1 east as well as west; Terminal 2 east and west).

According to the Japanese travel site Rurubu (updated July 2026):

  • You must be 17 or older with a valid passport from an eligible country.
  • You register on arrival at Incheon (and Jeju from May 2026); there is no online pre-registration.
  • Fingerprints and a face photo are taken, it takes a few minutes, and a sticker goes in your passport.
  • Registration lasts until you renew your passport.
  • The e-Arrival card is waived only when you actually enter through an SES lane.
LocationRegistration counter hours (Rurubu)
Incheon T1 (A, F)07:00–22:00
Incheon T2 (A)24 hours
Incheon T2 (B)05:00–20:00
Gimpo, GimhaeNo registration counter (June 2026); registered users can use the gates

We could not confirm whether you can use the SES gates on the same arrival you register on, or whether registering saves time on that first entry.

On the way home, Incheon Airport's official page says short-term visitors aged 17 and over can use the departure e-gates without registering.

K-ETA exempt until 31 December 2026

A K-ETA official notice (23 December 2025) extended the temporary exemption for already-exempt countries, Japan among them, to 31 December 2026 (KST). Exempt travellers can still apply voluntarily, for a fee, to skip the arrival card. As of 16 October 2026 nothing has been announced for 2027. Details: K-ETA and entry.

From landing to the venue: working backwards

This table is our planning advice, not an official guideline. The only figures in it are ones confirmed by official pages or reports.

StageWhat to allow for
Landing to immigrationUp to 92 minutes for manual screening at peak (Ministry of Justice); possibly less if you are registered and can use SES
Baggage and customsExtra time if you checked a bag; less with carry-on only
Airport to venueRoutes and journey times per venue in Airport to venues
Ticket pickupFrom 1 hour before the show (NOL World); expect a queue
Flight delaysAdd more margin on top

Example: for an 18:00 show with pickup from 17:00 and, say, 90 minutes from the airport to the venue, allowing the 92-minute worst case at immigration means landing by about 14:00 at the latest. With baggage and possible delays, an earlier flight is safer. If you can't predict the timings, we recommend arriving the day before and heading to the venue from your hotel.
