Trip Q&A

Fan meeting or concert: what's the difference?

Last checked: 15 October 2026

A concert is a live show built around songs and performance; a fan meeting is an event built around talk, games and time with fans; a fan-con (fan concert) sits in between. You buy tickets the same way, but fan meetings tend to use smaller venues, and some attach strict conditions such as fan-club presales or requiring the booker to attend in person. The running order differs by event, so read the notice.

Content and venues

Korea's official performance database, KOPIS, files all of these as popular music. The clearest difference is the venue. Among the shows in our calendar, fan meetings and fan-cons mostly used relatively small venues such as YES24 LIVE HALL, university halls and Jangchung Arena.

"Fan-con" usually means a fan meeting with more song stages between the talk segments. Where a given event sits on that scale varies.

Ticket conditions

Fan meetings sometimes come with detailed membership and ID conditions. Examples from official 2026 notices:

  • ByeonWooSeok Asia Fanmeeting (July 2026, Ticketlink): in the membership presale, the fan-club member, the Ticketlink buyer and the attendee had to be the same person. Floor and level-2 seats were pickup-only, by the buyer or immediate family who could prove the relationship.
  • JICHANGMIN fan meeting (November 2026, NOL): every seat was ID-checked at a booth, and only verified fans got an entry wristband. The NOL booker and the attendee had to match.
  • CHUU Birthday Party (Ticketlink): about 80 unassigned seats, with seat numbers drawn by lottery on the day.

To prepare for ID checks, see ID checks at Korean concerts.

Sound checks and fansigns

Concerts sometimes add a "sound check event" to the top seat grade, as with MINHO, WayV and YESUNG on Ticketlink in 2026; missing the sound check meant no partial refund.

Fansigns are separate from ticket sales. The TWS offline fansign in November 2026 (Weverse Shop) picked 50 winners from album buyers, required age 13 or over (14 in Korea), banned proxies and resale, and asked foreigners for an original passport or residence card.

FAQ

Can I take photos at a fan meeting?

It depends on the event; some venues ban all filming (Concert etiquette).

Are fan meetings sold on the global ticket sites?

Some are. Whether the global page sells it, and whether there is a global membership presale, is in the notice. See the ticket guides for each site.

Will I enjoy it without Korean?

Fan meetings are talk-heavy, so interpretation makes a difference. There is no common official rule on interpreters or subtitles; check the event's notice.
