Trip Q&A
Card declined on a Korean ticket site? What works and what to check
Most failed payments from abroad come down to three things: the site doesn't take your card brand, your card isn't set up for 3D Secure, or you're on the Korean site instead of the overseas one. All four global ticket sites expect a card issued outside Korea, but each accepts a different set of brands. The best fix is to check your site-and-card combination well before sale day.
What each site accepts
| Site | Accepted | Not accepted / conditions |
|---|---|---|
| NOL World | Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, JCB, UnionPay issued outside Korea | Korean-issued cards (use them on the Korean NOL ticket site) |
| Melon Ticket Global | Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay issued outside Korea (credit cards only) | 3D Secure required for every brand except UnionPay |
| YES24 (English site) | Credit cards with 3D Secure; PayPal | UnionPay; AMEX issued outside Korea. PayPal only if the show is more than 180 days away |
| Ticketlink Global | "Credit Card (Overseas)" | No bank transfer for major K-pop shows; brands not published |
From each site's official FAQ and show pages, checked 15 October 2026. Conditions can change per show, so check the show page before you pay.
What to check when a payment fails
Is 3D Secure set up?
Melon Ticket Global requires 3D Secure for every brand except UnionPay and tells buyers to register with their bank's 3D Secure service before sale day. YES24 also requires a 3D Secure card. Make sure you know how your bank's check works (app approval, one-time code) before the clock is running.
Does this site take this brand?
AMEX works on NOL World but not on YES24 if issued outside Korea. UnionPay works on NOL World and Melon but not on YES24. A card that worked on one site may fail on another.
Are you on the overseas site?
The Korean sites usually require Korean mobile or I-PIN identity checks that visitors can't pass. NOL World is for cards issued outside Korea only and sends Korean-issued cards to the Korean site.
Did the timer run out?
Seat holds are short. NOL World gives up to 10 minutes to pick seats and then 7 minutes to pay; Ticketlink holds seats for 8 minutes after you click Next. After that the seats are released (times can vary by show). A slow 3D Secure step is a common way to run out of time.
If it still fails, try another card of an accepted brand, or ask your card issuer whether overseas online payments are blocked. One prepaid-card company's blog reports frequent 3D Secure failures with foreign cards; bear in mind it is promoting its own card.
Pay in your currency or in won? And refunds
Prices are shown in Korean won. On NOL World the payment window lets you choose your card's home currency or KRW: Visa and Mastercard support 24 currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY and TWD; JCB supports KRW, USD, JPY and TWD. Which is cheaper depends on the exchange rate and your card's fees.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with. NOL World processes refunds in KRW and warns that exchange-rate differences and international transaction fees may remain; YES24 says the same about currency-conversion costs.
Can I use PayPal?
Only YES24 says so officially, and only for bookings more than 180 days before the show; PayPal's 10-cent fee is not refunded. NOL World's FAQ lists cards only and says nothing about PayPal or Alipay.
FAQ
Do debit or prepaid cards work?
None of the official FAQs says clearly. Melon Ticket Global says credit cards only. The safe choice is a credit card of a brand the site lists, with 3D Secure set up.
Does a Japanese JCB card work?
NOL World and Melon Ticket Global accept JCB. YES24 only says "credit cards with 3D Secure" without a brand list, and Ticketlink Global doesn't publish its brands.
Can a Korean friend pay with their card?
The global sites expect a card issued outside Korea (NOL World, Melon). Many shows also check the booker's name and passport at pickup or entry, so buy with your own account and your own card.
The payment errored. Should I start again?
First check your booking history (My Reservations, My Ticket) in case the booking went through. NOL World lets you cancel free of charge until 11:59 pm on the day you booked.
