Trip Q&A
Korean phrases for concert day (venue, merch line, taxi, food)
You need less Korean on concert day than you might think. Three patterns ("where is…?", "…please", "can I…?") plus a handful of set phrases get you through the entrance, the merch line, the taxi home and a meal after the show. If you are unsure of your pronunciation, just show the Korean on this page on your phone. The romanization is only a guide to the sound.
Three patterns to learn first
Drop a word into one of these three patterns and you can handle most situations. The "-yo" ending is the polite form, so it is fine with staff and shop workers.
| Pattern | Say it | Meaning and example |
|---|---|---|
| 〜 어디예요? | … eo-di-ye-yo | Where is …? e.g. 화장실 어디예요? (Where is the toilet?) |
| 〜 주세요 | … ju-se-yo | … please / please do … e.g. 이거 주세요 (This one, please) |
| 〜 돼요? | … dwae-yo | Can I …? / Is … OK? e.g. 카드 돼요? (Can I pay by card?) |
At the entrance and the ID check
| Korean | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 입구가 어디예요? | ip-kku-ga eo-di-ye-yo | Where is the entrance? |
| 이 좌석은 어느 입구예요? | i jwa-seo-geun eo-neu ip-kku-ye-yo | Which entrance is this seat? (showing your ticket) |
| 여권 여기 있어요. | yeo-kkwon yeo-gi i-sseo-yo | Here is my passport. |
| 재입장 돼요? | jae-ip-jjang dwae-yo | Can I re-enter? |
For the ID check, visitors from abroad normally show their original passport. Many shows do not accept copies or photos; see the ID check guide.
Picking up tickets at the venue (현장수령)
Collecting your ticket at the venue is called 현장수령 (hyeon-jang-su-ryeong, on-site pickup). Korean ticket sites sometimes add "(현장수령)" after the seat type (seat map labels). Pickup times and what to bring differ by show, so check the notice.
| Korean | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 현장수령은 어디서 해요? | hyeon-jang-su-ryeong-eun eo-di-seo hae-yo | Where is ticket pickup? |
| 티켓 받으러 왔어요. | ti-ket ba-deu-reo wa-sseo-yo | I am here to pick up my ticket. |
| 이게 예매 번호예요. | i-ge ye-mae beo-no-ye-yo | This is my booking number. |
In the merch (MD) line
Official merchandise is written "MD" or 공식 상품 (official goods) in Korean notices. In 2026 Weverse notices, XIA's KSPO DOME concert was titled "OFFICIAL MD 현장 수령 및 판매 안내" (pickup and on-site sale), and TXT's MOA CON "공식 상품 현장 판매". Collecting pre-ordered merch is also called 현장 수령. How you buy and pay differs by show (buying merch).
| Korean | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 여기 MD 줄 맞아요? | yeo-gi em-di jul ma-ja-yo | Is this the merch line? |
| 줄 끝이 어디예요? | jul kkeu-chi eo-di-ye-yo | Where is the end of the line? |
| 이 줄은 뭐예요? | i ju-reun mwo-ye-yo | What is this line for? |
| 이거 하나 주세요. | i-geo ha-na ju-se-yo | One of these, please. |
| 카드 돼요? | ka-deu dwae-yo | Can I pay by card? |
| 품절이에요? | pum-jeo-ri-e-yo | Is it sold out? |
Asking for the toilet, the exit or the station
| Korean | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 화장실 어디예요? | hwa-jang-sil eo-di-ye-yo | Where is the toilet? |
| 출구 어디예요? | chul-gu eo-di-ye-yo | Where is the exit? |
| 지하철역은 어느 쪽이에요? | ji-ha-cheol-lyeo-geun eo-neu jjo-gi-e-yo | Which way is the subway station? |
Stations get crowded after a show and some lines finish early. Leave-by times for each venue are in last trains after concerts.
In the taxi home
Showing the destination works better than saying it. Copy the Korean address from your hotel booking or a map app, put it on your screen and say 이 주소로 가 주세요. To go to a station, put its name in front of 역으로 가 주세요 (yeo-geu-ro ga ju-se-yo).
| Korean | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 이 주소로 가 주세요. | i ju-so-ro ga ju-se-yo | Please go to this address. |
| 명동역으로 가 주세요. | myeong-dong-yeo-geu-ro ga ju-se-yo | Please go to Myeongdong Station. |
| 여기서 세워 주세요. | yeo-gi-seo se-wo ju-se-yo | Please stop here. |
| 카드로 할게요. | ka-deu-ro hal-kke-yo | I will pay by card. |
| 트렁크 열어 주세요. | teu-reong-keu yeo-reo ju-se-yo | Please open the trunk. |
For calling a taxi by app, see taxi apps compared.
At a restaurant after the show
| Korean | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 지금 식사 돼요? | ji-geum sik-ssa dwae-yo | Can we still eat now? |
| 몇 시까지 해요? | myeot-ssi-kka-ji hae-yo | What time do you close? |
| 두 명이에요. | du myeong-i-e-yo | Two people. (One: 한 명이에요, han myeong-i-e-yo) |
| 이거 주세요. | i-geo ju-se-yo | This one, please. (pointing at the menu) |
| 포장 돼요? | po-jang dwae-yo | Can I take it away? |
| 안 맵게 해 주세요. | an maep-kke hae ju-se-yo | Not spicy, please. |
| 계산해 주세요. | gye-sa-nae ju-se-yo | The bill, please. |
Some dishes cannot be made less spicy. How to find places open late is in where to eat after the show.
Talking to staff
| Korean | Say it | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 저기요. | jeo-gi-yo | Excuse me. (to get attention) |
| 영어 하시는 분 있어요? | yeong-eo ha-si-neun bun i-sseo-yo | Is there someone who speaks English? |
| 다시 한 번 말해 주세요. | da-si han beon ma-rae ju-se-yo | Could you say that again? |
| 천천히 말해 주세요. | cheon-cheo-ni ma-rae ju-se-yo | Please speak slowly. |
Setting up translation apps offline
So the app still works when you have no signal, download Korean over Wi-Fi before you leave.
Google Translate (camera works offline too)
According to Google's help pages, once a language is downloaded you can translate without an internet connection, and camera translation works offline too. On iPhone, Google says to download both the source and the target language (Korean and English) to use the camera offline.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and open the Translate app
- Tap a language: at the bottom of the screen on Android, at the top left or right on iPhone
- Tap the download icon next to Korean, and tap Download if asked to confirm
- Download English the same way. Saved languages show a "Downloaded" icon
Papago (offline: text and voice only)
Papago's help page says that with the offline language pack you can use text and voice translation without a connection. Image (camera), conversation, website and document translation do not work offline. Offline translation covers only Korean, English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, on devices with at least 4 GB of RAM. On Android, offline voice translation also needs the separate voice pack and Android 14 or later.
Use Google Translate for menus and signs through the camera and Papago for conversation; having both is the safe option.
About fan chants (응원법)
The chants fans shout together during songs, such as the members' names, are called 응원법 (eung-won-beop) in Korean. They differ by artist and by song, so this page does not list any. If you want to learn them, go by what the artist's official channels publish.
FAQ
Can I get by without Korean?
Show the Korean on this page or use a translation app. If you are unsure of your pronunciation, showing the text is the most reliable way.
Will people understand the romanization?
Romanization only approximates Korean sounds. If you are not understood, show the Korean text instead.
Polite or casual Korean?
The phrases here end in polite "-yo", so you can use them with staff, shop workers and taxi drivers.
I want camera translation offline
According to Google's help pages, Google Translate's camera works offline once the language is downloaded (on iPhone, download both Korean and English). Papago's image translation does not work offline.
